July 17, 18 and 19, 2009

Welcome to another year of the Eureka Springs Fat Tire Festival July 17-19 presented by Adventure Subaru.  First off we would like to announce that the Fatty Fest is now under the umbrella of Progressive Trails Design.  Many thanks go out to the OORC and the years of dedication to advocacy efforts they have compiled. Don’t worry, many of the same OORC faces will be present lending a hand and pimping the trails. PTD promises to carry the torch with all of the enthusiasm and professionalism as the Ozark Off Road Cyclists have for the past 11 years and up the FAT content

A tentative schedule of events is listed below and soon the site will be updated with all of the 2009 details. The Fatty Fest will also be part of the DYNASTY OF DIRT SERIES, in 2009. The DOD is a Northwest Arkansas Series of bike events designed to take Arkansas bicycle racing to the next level and bring the many “disciplines of dirt” together. You can go to the PTD site now to view the DOD schedule. Look forward to several gravity oriented competitions, short track and trials at most of the events.

On the horizon for the Fatty Fest for 2009 are several new developments. The PTD Downhill will be getting a make over! By the time of the race there will be a fully dedicated DH line eliminating the double traffic on the Miner’s Rock trail. This will be the first legitimately dedicated DH line on public property in the state. Look forward to more knarly jumps, kickers and drops as well as beefed-up existing features.

Another change is the new location for the Phat Tire Short Track Friday Night the 17th.  A local MX flat track course just 4 miles north of town will be host to the event. All dirt, this track will allow the entire racecourse to be viewed at one time, providing a cool spectator aspect. Super fast and flat, this course will test the lungs and legs but also offers an element of technical challenge.

The weekend before the Fatty Fest we will begin a new era by offering several warm-up events. Saturday July the 11th there will be pre-rides of the XC course, DH practice sessions and an open house at the short track venue. There will also be a time trial challenge on the short track sponsored by Adventure Mountain. See if you can beat the local’s best times, win prizes and get ranked for pole position for the ST event the ensuing weekend

Sunday July the 12th (water permitting) there will be a pedal and paddle on the King’s River brought to you by Adventure Mountain Outfitters and Kings River Outfitters. This is a fun no miss outing. The adventure includes a guided ride through the Madison County Game Reserve to the spectacular Kettle Falls, boat rental, sack lunch, and bike shuttle.

As always the Fatty Fest will be serving up all of the standard fare; Guided local non-competitive rides, Observed Trials, Race to the Lake, PTD Downhill, Short Track all in of the best cycling environments in the central US. We hope to see you all there July 17-19. It’s almost Fatty Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
